Our Story

With over 75 years of fabric importing experience, Nipkow & Kobelt, Inc. (NK Textile) has earned its reputation as a leader and innovator, originally in silk and poly fabrics, more recently in stretch fabrics for activewear, dance, costume, gymnastics, cheerleading and novelty fabrics for fashion apparel.

Incorporated in 1946 in New York we were the first company to import silk yarn to the U.S. and in 1950 we were the first to import woven silk fabrics to be dyed and printed in the U.S. Later in the 1950s and 1960s, we became the first importer of natural silks from India and with the advent of polyester fabrics, we were the first to import dyed and finished poly fabrics from Japan to the U.S.

In 1992 we developed holographic metallic sequins, as well as holographic glitter, both produced in the U.S. for worldwide distribution. Later we developed the ability to transfer holographic foil onto stretch fabric, an innovation that forever revolutionized the character of printed metallic fabrications.

Today, we continue to specialize in stretch and non-stretch novelty fabrics with metallic and sequin finishes that we stock and ship worldwide from our warehouse in New Jersey. We also develop custom novelty fabrics for customers who can meet production minimums.

NK Active, our latest line of fabrics, is designed for manufacturers of activewear apparel who are looking for top quality fabrics with high modulus and compression.
